A. Kohar Ibrahim

Ibrahim, A. Kohar, alias D. Tanaera or Abe was born in Jakarta on June 16, 1942. He studied at Akademi Sastra dan Bahasa Indonesia Multatuli (Academy of Literature and Indonesian Multatuli), Jakarta. He also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels (Academy Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles), Belgium. He was an active member of the Lembaga Sastra Indonesia (Institute of Indonesian Literature)(LEKRA) from 1959 onwards. On September 27, 1965 he went to Peking as a member of the Indonesian Authors delegation to attend cultural celebrations for the 16th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China (PRC) on October 1, 1965. During his stay, the political situation in Indonesia changed dramatically and prevented his return to Indonesia, so Kohar worked on China's Illustrated magazine and in the Library of Foreign Languages ​​in Peking.

From 1972 to 1992, his main activity was as a professional painter using the name Abe. From the time he was young, Kohar wrote using his original name and with different pseudonyms. His writings are scattered across several daily and weekly magazines, including Bintang Timur (Eastern Star),Star Sunday (Bintang Minggu), the People's Daily (Harian Rakyat), Bhakti News (Warta Bhakti), Majalah Zaman Baru (New Age magazine) and the magazine Wanita (Woman). And his first novelet, Pembebasan ("Liberation"), was published as a serialized story in the Daily Star in the 60's. During his stay in China, Kohar wrote a second novelet, Debur Ombak Pantai Utara ("Pounding Waves North Coast"). Kohar become one of the founding publishers of of Pembanian dan Kreasi magazine.
