For the many Indonesian writers who have spent time in the United States, the country that is America is sometimes a jungle, sometimes a labyrinth of loneliness, but at other times a snow-swept plain, a misty morning sky or a fount of pleasure and love. The poets pain a gamut of images that, while often familiar, take on a new light as they are seen through foreign eyes.
