Limbuk

Limbuk is the daughter of Cangik and a maidservant to the queen. Her haughty and vain manner resembles that of her mother and the two are always primping and putting on airs. Limbuk’s appearance on the screen is always the occasion for joking, especially concerning her virginity and her futile attempts to find a husband. She always seeks her mother’s advice as to how to find a man, and this is also a source of great amusement. When she walks she is accompanied by the sound of the large drum as a sign that she is grossly fat and awkward in her movements. (A young overweight girl is often compared to the Limbuk character.)

Limbuk has keran eyes, a small, indented nose and her lips are small and tightly closed. Her hair is worn in the sanggul gede bun and she wears the large suweng blong earrings. She wears the slogog batik dress and wrapped about her torso, the kain dodot. Limbuk has a very low, masculine voice and a mannered, coquettish accent.
