Bagong

Bagong is the materialization of Semar’s shadow. It is told that when Semar was ordered to live on earth, Semar asked who would befriend him in that alien place. The gods responded that his shadow would be his companion. At the instant semar’s shadow materialized and was given the name Bagong, meaning “movement” since he follows closely the movements of his father.
Bagong’s behavior is impudent and when he listens to someone talking he often responds by feigning ignorance and answers like a young child. When Bagong speaks his voice is very low and loose in the throat.
Bagong has wide-open pecicilan [=gawking] eyes and a flat nose. His lower lip is long and thick. His head is bald (though some puppets have a forelock), and he has a pot belly and a ruptured navel. He wears bracelets and wears the rapekan dagelan dress.
