Raden Rajamala is the son of Begawan palasara and Dewi Watari. He is a warrior in Wirata during the reign of Prabu Matswapati. He possesses powerful magic and is invulnerable to attack. Because he wishes to duel a warrior names Jagal Abilawa (who is actually Raden Bratasena in disguise), he announces a contest of strength in which he will take on any and all combatants. Jagal Abilawa enters the arena to fight Rajamala but is unable to defeat him because Rajamala possess a secret weapon which renders him immortal. His mother had created a bathing pool and should Rajamala be killed he needs only to be immersed in the water of the pool and he will come to life. This secret is learned by the Pandawas and Arjuna shoots his magic arrow into the pool. Jagal Abilawa thereupon defeats Rajamala; his mother immerses him in the water but his body completely disappears into it.

Rajamala has plelengan eyes, a bulbous, up-turned nose (Nyentang) said to resemble a shipÂ’s prow, and a mrenges mouth [with lips drawn back in a jeering smile]. His hair flows down his back in the gimbal style and he wears a diadem with a garuda ornament in back. He wears rajamala ear ornaments. These ear ornaments, similar to the sekar kluwih [kluwih flower] style, are a basic variety to which the character lends his name. He wears bracelets, armbands and anklets. He carries a keris, the hilt of which is in the shape of a human head (hulu gana). He wears the three-tiered bulan sabit [crescent-shaped] necklace and the rapekan dress.
