Dewabrata

Raden Dewabrata is the son of Resi Sentanu┬ľa hermit-priest and later the king of Astina, Prabu Sentanu.

Dewabrata wishes to live the life of a celibate. But because he is a prince who is expected eventually to rule as a king, he is forced to marry. He marries Dewi Ambika, the daughter of Prabu Darmamuka of Srawantipura. As Dewabrata leaves the kingdom of Srawantipura he is followed by his new wife, but Dewabrata insists that she return. In order to frighten her into returning he says that if she continues to follow him he will shoot his arrow at her. No sooner are the words out of his mouth than his arrow is accidentally loosed and she is killed. As she dies she cries out with the prophetic curse that later in the Baratayuda her soul will avenge this murder through the body of a female warrior of Cempalaredja. Indeed this is how Dewabrata (later Bisma) meets his end in the Baratayuda.

Raden Dewabrata has jaitan eyes and a pointed nose. He wears his hair in the kadal menek knot and wears the sekar kluwih ear ornaments, the bulan sabit necklace, bracelets, armbands and anklets. He wears the bokongan raton dress.
