Pragota is the chief minister (patih) of King Baladewa of Madura. His speech is coarse and he has a hearty and vulgar laugh. However, these are mere external trappings; within he is refined and full of wisdom. He affects this outward manner in order to complement that of his irascible monarch. In battle he acts like a man enjoying himself, relaxed and unemotional, but he is always victorious. His appearance is accompanied by the Galaganjur melody played by the gamelan.

His eyes are the plelengan putih type, his nose the mungkul gerang (literally, like a worn-out whetstone) type. He wears a kind of turban (ketudeng) which hangs down in back. He wears the ulur-ulur necklace and woven silk cinde trousers under his skirts.
