Balinese Offerings

This detachable sepia card was produced by the Royal Packet Navigation Company (KPM). Offering towers, which can reach three meters high, are decorated with glass paintings, roast chickens or ducks or suckling pigs, fruit, and flower blossoms. Women carry them where the sprinkles them with holy water. In Bali, offerings may also be much simpler, and may be placed outside of temples. A few grains of rice or flower petals spread on a banana leaf may be placed on an ancestral shrine, a doorstep, a tree, or other places where spirits are deemed to be present.
