Cremation Towers

The card (never sent, but most likely collected) was part of a major series of cards produced by The Royal Packet Navigation Company. Cremation towers are high because height, such as that embodied in a mountain, is considered holy. After the cremation, the ashes of the deceased are carried to the sea or a river. When they are set adrift, the purification is complete and the soul is considered free.
