Kamajaya

Sang Hyang Kamajaya, famed for his striking beauty, is a guardian of lovers and the son of Semar (Hyang Ismaya). He is married to Dewi Kamaratih, the daughter of Sang Hyang Resi Soma. She is a heavenly nymph and extremely beautiful; the two never leave each other’s side.

Accroding to traditional Javanese belief, when a woman is pregnant for the first time a ceremony (selamatan) is held at which a kelapa gading (small yellowish variety of coconut with a painting of Kamajaya and Kamaratih etched on it) is given as an offering to the two gods.

Sang Hyang Kamajaya has jaitan eyes, a pointed nose and blackened teeth. His clothes are typical of a god except that his headress is like that of a kesatria. He reigns in the kingdom of Cakrakembang with his queen Dewi Kamaratih.
