Bisma

Resi Bisma is the name which Dewabrata takes when he becomes a hermit-priest. During the Baratayuda he allies himself with Astina and is made a commander of the Kurawa armies. He meets face to face in battle with Dewi Srikandi, princess of Cempalareja and a heroine of the Pandawa side. She shoots him with her arrow and kills him as had been prophesied in the curse which Dewi Ambika had uttered upon her murder at Bisma’s hand.

Resi Bisma has kedondongan eyes, a delicate nose and mouth, and a moustache and beard. He wears a songkok [a kind of velvet turban] a diadem with the garuda ornament in back, a long jacket, slendang and shoes, all idicative of his priestly status. Only the front arm is capable of movement. It is clear from his face that he is easily angered.*)

*) In addition to the shape of the eyes and face, one can tell an irascible character by the color of his face, usually red or pink.
