Raden Jayadrata is the son of Begawan Sapwaniwijawastra of Banakeling; he issues magically from the birth sac of the infant Raden Brasena in answer to the prayers of the childless Sapwani. Bratasena is born encased in a sac and after he emerges, the sac is thrown away by the gods and it lands in the country of Banakeling. Begawan Sapwani takes the sac and through prayer and supplication the sac turns into a male infant whom he names Jayadrata (later also known as “kesateria of Banakeling”).

In the Baratayuda, Begawan Sapwani seeks to assure his son’s safety by hiding him from Arjuna. Arjuna makes an oath that he will irmolate himself if within twenty-four hours he cannot find and kill Jayadrata. Begawan Sapwani, overhearing the oath, hides his son. When the moment comes when Arjuna is to kill himself, Jayadrata emerges to spay on the Pandawa hero. Betara kresna notices Jayadrata and he points him out to Arjuna who shoots his arrow and severs Jayadrata’s head which then rolls to the feet of his meditating father, Sapwani.
