Maengket is a traditional performance art combining dancing and lyrical literature that originates from the Minahasa region of North Sulawesi. It is performed by singing and dancing men and women. The lyrics are improvisational, depending on the context of the ritual for which the performance is being held, such as home coming ceremonies, marriage ceremonies etc. This is a dying art that can be found in very few villages nowadays.
